From a Leap of Faith to 25 Years Strong

Celebrating 25 years built on courage, grit, and a long drive.

A little over 25 years ago, on return from the annual Christmas holidays January 2001, I decided to try the contracting market. Contracting was something I’d been thinking about for some time, and had been speaking about to various people, including agencies. So, I bit the bullet and came back on the 1st day after the holidays and handed in my notice; no contract; no company set up; just a 3 month notice period and time to find something.

In February 2001, I had found a job as a Lotus Notes Administrator – in Weymouth. So I emailed, and called up to discuss the opportunity and managed to secure a face-to-face interview.

The next weekend, I drove to Weymouth for the interview, roughly about 650 miles, ready to Interview on the Monday morning. On the way back home, I made a call to an agency I’d been discussing a potential role with for the last 4-5 months, and said it was a good time to get the interview as I was passing their offices on the way home.

A Last‑Minute Interview That Launched a 25‑Year Career

The agent phoned my back and said he’d finally managed to secure an interview on the Wednesday, to which I replied, that’s no good. I needed to be at home on Wednesday to sell my house, so asked if we do it the next day, Tuesday 13th February.

A short while later Marcus (agent) called back and said they said they can do Tuesday. WOOOO!

After visiting family in Widnes, I drove back to Telford for my second job interview. While having a quick coffee, the interviewer asked when I could start. I thought for a moment and replied that I could easily begin the following week.

After I got home, I sold the house the next day. The company started on Friday, February 16th, and I began my 25-year job on Monday, February 19th.
